You can’t successfully work with Way of Life Method by picking and choosing aspects of it that are consistent with your past training or education and reject those that are inconsistent with your previous learning.
It is normal for the mind to seek confirmation. We are comforted to know that more than one source of authority agrees on a certain course of action. It is natural for someone in search of solutions to believe in the value of a solution if they hear it from multiple sources.
It is also true that there is much mixed information in the world of dog training – conflicting opinions and controversies that are sometimes as unfortunate as they are unnecessary. For example, I for one believe that we should not be having debates anymore about crating and taking our time with socialization but here we are, with people and dogs suffering the consequences.
Think about why we got in trouble to begin with, why we’re even here looking for solutions. Consider this Albert Einstein quote: “No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.” This means that the reason why we’re here in the first place is because we thought and acted a certain way. The way out therefore must involve a comprehensive change in thinking and behaving. It is alright to change our minds and alter our lifestyle – scary at first, but ultimately freeing, empowering, and hugely rewarding. The Way of Life Method is not called “Way of Life” for nothing and the dogs are well worth it.
